MP Hawn Appointed to Treasury Board Cabinet Committee

Ottawa, ON – Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the appointment of the Honourable Laurie Hawn, PC, CD, MP for Edmonton Centre, to the Treasury Board Cabinet Committee.

This appointment will allow the Government to benefit from MP Hawn’s experience and knowledge from the Strategic and Operating Review, as well as his previous experience in the financial sector prior to being elected as a Member of Parliament.

“I am humbled and honoured to have been selected to sit on the Treasury Board Cabinet Committee, and am confident I can bring the necessary fiscal restraint to help ensure Canada continues on the right path towards balanced budgets. This appointment will certainly take advantage of the experience I gained as part of the Treasury Board Cabinet Sub-Committee on Deficit Reduction,” said MP Hawn.

The Treasury Board is responsible for accountability and ethics, financial, personnel and administrative management, comptrollership, approving regulations and most Orders-in-Council. The committee is responsible for the management of the government by translating the policies and programs approved by Cabinet into operational reality and by providing departments with the resources and the administrative environment they need to do their work.

“I appreciate the confidence that the Prime Minister has shown in me and I will work hard to contribute to our goal of making government spending as prudent and accountable as possible,” concluded MP Hawn.
