Edmonton, AB – The Honourable Laurie Hawn, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today celebrated the grand opening of the North Point Housing Complex, which will provide vulnerable people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with greater access to housing and support services.
“Our government is giving a hand-up to Canadians with housing needs and is helping to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty,” said Mr. Hawn. “We are pleased to support our community partners in their efforts to find local solutions to local problems.”
“Through the support of the Government of Canada’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy, we are one step closer to our shared goal of ending homelessness in Edmonton,” said Susan McGee, Executive Director, Homeward Trust Edmonton. “North Point is a great example of the positive results achieved when a community comes together.”
The Edmonton Inner City Housing Society, through Homeward Trust Edmonton, received Homelessness Partnering Strategy funding of more than $1.3 million to build an apartment complex for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who may be dealing with addiction or mental health issues, or have developmental needs.
