EDMONTON, ALBERTA – Seniors in Edmonton have the opportunity to take part in various activities promoting healthy living, thanks to support from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Laurie Hawn, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
“The Government of Canada is committed to improving the lives of seniors, and is proud to support local organizations with the same goal,” said Mr. Hawn. “This project will allow local seniors to share their skills, knowledge and experience for the benefit of other seniors in the community.”
The Edmonton Vietnamese and Chinese Seniors Mutual Assistance Society received $24,500 for its project entitled Guideline for Safe and Healthy Living. During this project, seniors will promote active living and healthy lifestyles to other seniors through activities like tai chi and ballroom dancing, as well as health care workshops on a variety of topics such as prescription medications. At the conclusion of the project, the organization will publish a healthy living manual to help seniors maintain their new healthy lifestyles.
